What does a DNA test report look like?

As well as the DNA test laboratory report, we provide a package that makes your results easier to understand. But what information does a DNA test report contain?

What does a DNA test report look like

Our DNA test laboratory reports display your DNA profile

Unlike other DNA test providers, we show each test participants DNA profile on the laboratory report. Rather than provide you with just a statement of the result, you will be able to see how the scientists in the laboratory have determined the results. To help you understand this and some of the terminology used, we also include an information sheet to help you better understand the report.

What is on the DNA test report?

We will use the paternity DNA test report as an example. This is by far the most common type of DNA test we perform. Also, other DNA test relationship results such as for siblings, are similar in the way they look.

First, the report will distinguish whether the DNA test is for legal purposes, or for personal information only.

Next, the report then displays a table which details each test participant's particulars. A short conclusion of the result is placed underneath to determine the outcome if the paternal relationship is present between the test participants. The report is signed by the scientists who conducted the analysis. This is followed by another table which details the genetic markers for each person. Each genetic marker has two alleles (numbers) associated with it. The scientists compare these pair of numbers for each genetic location and look for matching numbers. This information is displayed in a separate table in columns for clarity. If a relationship is not shared between the participants, the report will state inconsistency on the far right of each column where the alleles do not align with one another. This is followed by a statement stating that the samples were of a satisfactory condition to generate DNA profiles, and whether the alleged father can or cannot be excluded as the biological father. The report also details the probability of paternity as a percentage.

In addition, all reports are provided under the laboratory’s UKAS 17025 accreditation. Furthermore, legal DNA testing is covered by the Ministry of Justice approved list. The laboratory name and details are provided on all reports for legal testing, and the results package for peace of mind tests.
